Combination of predictive analytics and data warehouse technology enables retailers to generate high-quality, actionable information about customers

CHICAGO, 01/12/04 — SPSS Inc. (NASDAQ: SPSS), the leading global provider of predictive analytics, and MIIX Ltd., the leader in retail business intelligence, announced today at the National Retail Federation’s 93rd Annual Convention & EXPO a partnership that will combine SPSS Inc.’s predictive analytic solutions with MIIX’s retail data warehouse expertise. These companies have agreed to work together to provide retailers with greater insight into customer behavior, including the ability to predict purchase behavior and product associations.

MIIX’s retail data warehouse, supported by the company’s Ariadne Business Intelligence System (BIS), provides retailers with the accurate, updated information required to make critical business decisions through in-depth data analysis and reporting. SPSS Inc.’s predictive retail solutions, part of the company’s suite of predictive analytics technology, turn this data into insight, enabling companies to more effectively recognize retail trends and opportunities, and respond rapidly.

The SPSS predictive retail solutions enable retailers to gain insights into customer value segments and cross-sell modeling by developing comprehensive propensity models based on data from MIIX’s retail data warehouse. The joint solutions are also focused on increasing the effectiveness of promotions and providing improved customer service.

This joint solution will also enable retailers to determine products that individual customers will want in the future, specify appropriate inventory levels to meet forecasted demand, identify purchasing factors that will influence customers, and develop corresponding marketing and advertising campaigns to further increase customer demand. Additionally, it will help them to discover cross-sell opportunities for individual customers, and then actively use these insights at the point-of-sale, thus increasing sales revenue.
