Integration of OLAP Hub™ and Reporting Services provides expanded report creation, distribution and analysis capabilities

CHICAGO, 01/27/04 — SPSS Inc. (NASDAQ: SPSS), the leading global provider of predictive analytics, today announced that the latest release of the company’s OLAP Hub Web-based analytical reporting solution will offer support for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services. By providing direct access to Reporting Services, OLAP Hub places relevant, timely information in the hands of decision-makers in a secure, personalized manner.

"OLAP Hub has shown the ease of use, depth of functionality, and performance required for a positive return on investment," said Jim Keene, enterprise data warehouse senior project manager at the Harley-Davidson Motor Company (NYSE: HDI). “The next version of OLAP Hub is important to us because it will extend the functionality of Microsoft’s Reporting Services to deliver a truly robust analytical reporting solution.”

Using OLAP Hub, customers can reliably perform sophisticated analyses of large volumes of data. The distribution capabilities of Reporting Services enables OLAP Hub customers to access relevant information through a variety of channels, including e-mail, intranets, portals and application-specific repositories. This combination of technologies also enables additional customization capabilities, such as providing users with subscriptions to specific reports.

“Reporting Services provides an open and extensible platform supporting the authoring, management and delivery of rich, interactive reports to the enterprise,” said Tom Rizzo, director of product management for SQL Server at Microsoft Corp. “OLAP Hub is a complementary solution to Reporting Services, as it fully embraces the capabilities of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services within the Microsoft .NET Framework. The combination of technologies will provide business users with instant access to detailed analyses from any location at any time.”

The integration with Reporting Services benefits OLAP Hub customers in two ways. First, access to both OLAP views and Reporting Services reports is delivered through a single interface, enabling administrators to easily identify and schedule delivery of these reports to the OLAP Hub user community.

Second, any Reporting Services report using the Microsoft Analysis Services OLAP platform as a data source can be converted to an interactive OLAP Hub view, providing ad hoc navigation and drill-down with a single click. This combination of Reporting Services and OLAP Hub provides multiple paths to deliver the power of the Analysis Services analytical server through a single user interface.

“Not only are we excited about OLAP Hub’s support of Reporting Services, but we also see synergies between Reporting Services and our suite of predictive analytics technology," said Jon Otterstatter, executive vice president and chief technology officer at SPSS Inc. "Ultimately, we envision this combined offering addressing complex business problems such as customer retention, cross-selling and up-selling sales campaigns, and fraud detection. With the launch of Reporting Services, Microsoft is providing a robust platform for SPSS to apply its predictive analytics to a wide range of business initiatives."
